Ember Legal
Privacy Policy
Effective DateFebruary 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Ember collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards personal data.
Accend and Ember are operated by Mohammad Hassani, sole proprietor ("Ember," "Accend," "we," "our," or "us").
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to Ember's website, macOS app, and related services.
2. Data We Collect
Depending on how you use Ember, we may collect:
- Account and identity data: account identifier and email address.
- Content data: projects, documents, messages, and related metadata (for example titles, timestamps, word counts).
- Usage, diagnostics, and security data: request timestamps, model IDs, request status, latency, IP address, user-agent, and error codes used for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and reliability.
- Subscription data: plan/subscription status and purchase state provided through in-app subscription channels.
3. How We Use Data
We use personal data to provide and operate Ember, including authentication, syncing, AI and proofreading workflows, account and subscription management, support, security, abuse prevention, analytics, and service reliability.
4. AI and Proofreading Processing
Ignite requests are sent through Ember's authenticated proxy and processed by OpenRouter (openrouter.ai) to generate AI responses.
When you run proofreading checks, selected text or document text is sent through Ember's authenticated proxy to LanguageTool's public API (api.languagetool.org).
Ember does not use your content to train Ember-owned models. Third-party processors may have their own data practices under their policies.
5. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK)
Where applicable, we process personal data under legal bases that include performance of a contract (providing Ember), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, product operations), legal obligations, and consent where required.
7. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Processor and infrastructure regions can vary. We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the transfer context.
8. Data Retention
We retain account and content data while your account remains active or as needed to provide services you request.
Security and abuse-prevention logs are retained for a limited operational period and then deleted or de-identified, unless longer retention is required by law or security needs.
9. Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, encrypted content workflows, access controls, and row-level security for synced cloud data. No system can guarantee absolute security.
10. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, and restriction or objection to certain processing.
For U.S. state residents (including California), you may have rights to know categories of personal information collected, sources, purposes, disclosures, and rights to request deletion/correction and to appeal where applicable.
For EEA/UK users, you may have rights under GDPR/UK GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
To exercise rights, contact us at support@accend.dev. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
11. Children's Privacy
Ember is intended for users age 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version is effective when posted with a new effective date.
